Chasing The Dragon Poem by susette varga

Chasing The Dragon

So confused
What's going on?
Isolated
In your private space

Closed off attitude
Behaviour too
Extreme highs and lows
Have overcome you

Door firmly locked
As you light the bong
As you chase the dragon
Release the hit
Allowing euphoria to set in

Once kind and tender
Now cold and aloof
The man I once knew
Has disappeared
Your soul has left you
It's no longer there

Your piercing blue eyes
Have lost their sparkle
Now dark and dull
Reflecting just anger

Unclear thoughts
Changes in moods
In place of the love
That once we shared

Beautiful dragon
Enticingly sweet
You've captured my lover
I cannot compete

He's blissfully caught
In your web of deceit
To recue him
Will be no mean feat

Catching the dragon
He chased for so long
Was the fun of the game
To win he longed

He thought he was strong
Stronger than you
A point he had only
To prove to himself
Oh what a fool

Stupidly
He laid the gauntlet down
With no regard for his
Addictive personality

Such silly pride
Comes before a fall
He failed to see
That to win the game
Is not always
What it's cracked up to be

So engulfed
In the thrill of the chase
He mocked his destiny
Fell from grace

Losing all
That he ever cared for
Was the biggest price
He ever could pay

As you slowly
Next light up your bong
As your body starts to warm
As the euphoria begins to set in
May you think of me
And the heart you have lost

I am still here
But she has moved on
She has gone to seduce
Another one

I wish you'd had the sense
To see
The good future ahead
For both you and me

You sadly succumbed
To her sweet charm
She messed with your head
And has left you for dead
