Cherished Memories Poem by Gayathri Sukumaran

Cherished Memories

How I would like to lie like this for ever
While upon me a thousand memories shower
I close my eyes and let them drown me
And open my mind to a time when I was what I wanted to be

I wonder at the way I preserve my sweet moments and the way I wrap up my unhappy torments
But irrationally do I love them all
And forever in life I’ll keep them all

While knowing how sweet the memories are
It’s unfair to have them so far
To get any closer, is there not a way
Back in time I want another day

Upon my memories I ponder
As they make themselves fonder
But now I know it’s time to wake up
And for the memories to shut up

Oh, how I would like to lie like this for ever
While upon me a thousand memories shower
