Child's Play Poem by Chase Kersey

Child's Play

I see you nearly everyday.
My mom knows your mom,
And your dad knows my dad.
The playground is our escape
And our games make us free
From our cuts and bruises
And bedtime stories that never end.
Tales of Pirates and Princesses,
The ones where they are best friends,
But no one thinks they should.
This is what we play,
The privateer and duchess.
I cry yo-ho,
and you blush, and laugh.
We sail the seas
In search of treasure
And bounds of happiness,
But it's all cut short
In that room in my house,
When my mom and your mom,
And your dad and my mom
Are done with their own adventures,
And then we part ways.
I wish you didn't leave,
Because it makes my eyes cry,
But I'm happy because I know tomorrow
you'll, again, come by.
Hello there again.
We're older here now,
By but a year; or two.
We still play together,
But we've moved on from
Pirates and Princesses.
You like to play house
Where I am the father,
and you are the mother.
To tell the truth, I kind of like it.
Even though you are different,
We are still best friends.
The sad part is that
Your mom doesn't like my mom,
and my dad doesn't like your dad.
But that's ok because I still like you,
and I know that you like me too.
