Childhood Poem by Namrata Parashar

Childhood

Rating: 5.0

Colourful butterflies and pretty dolls
Running out to play when a friend calls
Gathering flowers and dodging balls
Dancing in the waterfalls
Oh being a little child in so much fun
It's sleeping with the moon and waking with the sun…

Jumping over puddles in the rains
Holding bright umbrellas through the lanes
Gazing at the water rushing in the drains
And the droplets trickle on the window panes
Oh being a little child in so much fun
It's sleeping with the moon and waking with the sun…

Going to school to learn and to play
And the morning prayers that I must say
Coloring pictures and making toys out of clay
Singing songs that make us happy and gay
Oh being a little child in so much fun
It's sleeping with the moon and waking with the sun…

Porridge for breakfast and roti-subji for lunch
Also some ice-creams and chocolates to munch
Tangy oranges and grapes by the bunch
And delicious raisins and almonds to crunch
Oh being a little child in so much fun
It's sleeping with the moon and waking with the sun…

Bed time stories of castles and kings
With melodious lullaby that granny sings
And then wonderful dreams of flying on wings
With fairies and clowns, stars and rings
Oh being a little child in so much fun
It's sleeping with the moon and waking with the sun…

As her father's friend and then a regular visitor at their residence, I am witness to Namrata Parashar growing up as a child. Even then she tried her hand at poetry and other forms of writing and I was among the first readers of her literary endeavors. She has a natural flair for English Writing. Later when she acquired qualifications in Mass Media Communications, her first printed write up I got to read was in Times of India. Namrata wrote this poem for her 7 year old niece- Vanshika who recited it at her school and won the first prize for recitation. With such fine tuned rhyming composition, it's no wonder that she merited the attention of the audiences. Hoping to read more from Namrata - both prose and poetry! Wishing her all the best!
