Chinese Shops In Portugal Poem by Jacson Gelato

Chinese Shops In Portugal

Our cities they are full of them
in every corner, in every silent street,
they have many little huge shops
they look small from the outside
they are huge in the inside,
selling products from a nail
to a toilet brush,
from a panty to a party gown;
they are the Chinese retailers
they gallantly have shops in every city
where they employ their own people
you can see only Chinese husband and wife
or their relatives in their shops as employees
they very rarely employ the Portuguese.
These Chinese do business calmly
they don't care to worry
they know that as one customer walks out
another customer walks in,
they know the customer's needs
sometimes they issue a receipt to him or her
sometimes not, it all depends on the customer
if he or she is interested in having it billed;
can anyone explain how these shops are helping
the economy of our country?
More than the needs of the people
these Chinese want to cater to their own survival
to illuminate their own earnings,
thus diluting the conditions of golden rule
that their business ventures must enhance
our country's economy and not just their own;
it is even forgotten that those they must employ
must be the Portuguese so as to create
jobs for our people.
Or should we be grateful to these Chinese
for enhancing our expenditure hobby
and privatizing their income technology?
