Christmas Eve Poem by Janine O'Callaghan

Christmas Eve

Stars and lights on Christmas trees are common sights I know.
But I saw something wonderful - the sky was all a-glow.
I heard the sounds of little bells, the stars were all a-glitter.
And dancing through the Milky Way? Faeries with wings a-flitter.

Their tiny feet made faerie dust fall down like flakes of snow.
The Christmas tree was sprinkled and the lights began to glow.
What was the sound that I had heard, what woke me in the night?
It was St Nicholas' sleigh and reindeer numbering eight.

But no, I counted them again - tonight he had another.
A bright red nose led all the rest like chicks behind their mother.
Have you been good, behaved yourself, been kinder to your brother?
Are there presents there for you, for Father and for Mother?
