City Of Glass Poem by Luke Butler

City Of Glass

O'er the hills where I stay, there was a city of glass,
Time and time again, I kept on walking passed,
Till one day, a friend did say, what a beautiful place,
I gazed at her, and thought, what a beautiful face,
So I took her to the city, where I was warned to not go,
For I was told that the city was for those who deserved it so,
she went in and I did follow, the beauty captured our hearts,
As we went further, she gazed at me, and said we must part,
I was furious and melancholy, and yet I kept my cool,
Watching her walk away, I thought 'I am such a fool',
I gave one last look, and saw her beauty multiply,
as I watched she turned to glass, to always refract the sky,
Then I saw through her, and knew her guise,
For me to figure this out, that was my true prize,
Until I found she was better, then I had come to surmise,
Words echoed in my head 'Son, do be wise',
I turned to walk away, knowing I was to be alone,
out of sadness, or of anger, I picked up and threw a stone,
And just like that, the city fell, tears filled my eyes,
Just like that, I broke such a beautiful world, I was the demise,
As glass fell around me, in ohh what a sight,
I forgot about the girl, I loved so last night.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem is about how in the pursuit of love, or one person we can lose the other important things around us. The main character destroys all his other relations and home (The city of glass) over one girl, and then realizes when all he loved was gone. That the girl was not the thing he missed, but instead the city of glass.
