Closed Books Are Never Understood Poem by Daniel Parker

Closed Books Are Never Understood

I can read emotions, they're like an open book,
The words, so clearly etched upon your face,
The utter contemplation, your foundations don't seem shook,
So tell me, just how do I win this race?
I feel your hurt, your anger, the pain runs through your blood,
Yet all you seem to do is walk away,
So tell me how you're feeling, we'll overcome this flood,
No longer must you keep your thoughts at bay,

You battle on, relentless, you take the blows, so hard,
You never seem to falter, or to break,
The hand you have's a tough one, now play your final card,
You always give, but now it's time to take,
Enough with all the fighting, give in to love, to hope,
Only then can happiness be found,
I understand your feelings, I know it's hard to cope,
You shout so loud, but never make a sound,

The war is almost over, but only if you choose,
To throw away the shackles and the fear,
Why be pessimistic, you've nothing left to lose,
You need to know that happiness is near,
So all the times you're hurting, just smile, the end is nigh,
Emotions you've locked in, can now set sail,
You now have no more reason, to sit alone and cry,
Your mind is open, now you can prevail.
