Cold Dead Eyes Poem by Violet Warren

Cold Dead Eyes

I'll have you know that I've been searching my room
for the love we lost atop of the sheets
between the pages of a bible
forced under the weight of pathetic defeat
like a ball and chain guilt swings
to and fro from me
forgiveness is more than a plea
it's a chance be set free

but sometimes I just lie and wait
hoping that you will come to my aid
once again you never arrive
as I fade away into your cold dead eyes

let's cut to the scene of my make believe dreams
to witness my stagnant present
it's sometimes hard to awake and believe
that my burdens have not been lessened
and that things are really as hard as they seem
turn your eyes away as I plunge into the deep
keep your helping hands away from me
I'm so tired of my struggling
but this is the last thing that I need
