Cold Reason Poem by Barry Van Allen

Why weren't they politically correct when I was young?
They never closed our school for snow,
well, that's not true - - - 3 times! ,
BUT, never for temperature!

K - 12, ... 3 times,
this year 4 times already,
and by western N.Y. standards,
this has been a fairly mild winter.

Were we just a ' tougher breed ',
or are we raising ' wimps'?

I'm not saying (as I was lied to) ,
that I had to walk barefoot ,
through seven feet of snow,
up - hill ... both ways... in June,
just to get to school!

A school that had no heat, of course,
and if you had a little runny nose...
you just broke it off - - -
as soon as it was frozen,
and the teachers had no sleeves!

These pampered little babies,
get off if it's too nippy,
OR too hot, for the air conditioning,
but, I remember when...

Maybe, we all remember when ...
and maybe that is why!
