Cologne-Soaked Shirts And Dried Out Eyes Poem by Stephanie Spray

Cologne-Soaked Shirts And Dried Out Eyes

The smell of your shirt
and your blanket on my bed,
reminders that you're at home
and I'm sitting here alone again.
Left with my memories
of more effort-less time,
when nothing else mattered
but our kisses and sighs.
But now I lay alone
with the apprehension of what's to come.
My recollection of everything
comes rushing all at once.

This detriment of heart,
for both you and I,
delusive as it seems
will all be worth it in time.
Ye, it is hard
and nay, is it amusing
But the time spent with you
deadens my heart's bruisings.

Because near to you,
I am unyielding.
I am dedicated
I am forgiving.

Things always get hard
before they are simple.
I wish I could take back
my heart being so fickle.
But nothing else matters
other than devotion
and that when I'm without you
I am void of all emotion.
