Commercial Choices Poem by Antony Glaser

Commercial Choices

The commercial use of peat
the sum of the run-off from the hills,
allowing the water table to purge the fields
drowning the cart of civility
like Dutch ships masquerading
as tidings of progress in the Medway.
The new World a lustre pearl of dissonance
wisdom an amber resin
encapsulatiing man in his remiss plunder
