Compos Mentis Poem by Nenia Arnaiz Dulom

Compos Mentis

How is your inner health,
If you assess yourself,
Would you say you’re in the right shape,
Normal, logical and receptive?

Is madness around affects how you behave?
Would you say you’re in your proper self,
Humanly typical but distinct,
Or unusually remote and indifferent?

Is the compos mentis state grips,
Or the madness enters your wits,
What is the condition of your head,
Now that chaotic era afflicts?

Like a mainframe is the human head,
Be careful what you store or process,
There are loads of choices we daily faced,
You can amass useful effects or even viruses.
Or in-between either to discard or upload and save.

In this world of deceit and pretense,
There are actually only two sets of preference,
The trivial against crucial matters
Or useful vs. useless things,
Which we always realize in the end.

Negative and positive are both needed,
To run the life’s current or balance the earth,
But it is up to you to stable yourself,
Even if the present equilibrium seems lop-sided.

Every circumstance has its own advantage,
But be aware of disadvantage enclose in it,
It is not flat as what you think it is,
There are three or four sides to every case.

Your decision may be correct,
If that is what you feel and believe,
But how about the others' perspective,
They may differ in opinion and judgment.

Like in every person’s story,
Fiction or non-fiction, told or untold,
It has two sides to portray,
Conflicting facets to say.

The happy and sad,
The good and bad,
And all circumstantial events,
To spice up one’s life.

So do not be afraid
If you go down a bit,
Swirl and turn,
Or recede from the present.

Life’s like that,
It is our reality on earth,
Just go on and be awake,
Do not slip away from yourself.
