Conquering Death Poem by NRUSINGHA MISHRA

Conquering Death

'Whom are you offering me father? ' witnessing the father's ambition, said Nachiketa
Anser to the same question third time, 'I offer you to the King of Death', said Vahasrava
Words were shot in one direction never to return
The littel boy set out and determined on the mission
To find the meaning of death and what happens after death
Nobody knows the answer to this very question on the earth
Convinced his father of the transience of human lives
which come to ultimately perish like plants and vanish
Sat at the door of the palace of the king withut food and water
Moved by the child persistence king gave three boons to gather
first one to remove diffculties of the father to get peace
Secod one to know the path to get to the heavly palace
Third one is the most difficult one, to know the mystery behind death
Which the king avoided to answer and offered boy with all pleasures on earth
The boy knew that he is not there for impermanent earthly pleasures
Finally elicited the secret from the king and found the priceless treasures
Behind the five senses are the objects of desires, behind the mind is emotion
Behind the emotion there is intellect, behind intellect there is ego and ambition,
Behind the ego, ther is self or soul, ever existent, all pervading consciousness, ever joyful
The wise knows soul is seated deep inside the mortal physical body and remains peaceful
