Contagious Storm Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

Contagious Storm

a storm!
a storm!
a storm disconsolate:
hear the winds blow
wild
and the rain peal with
sounds that batter the sad Earth
hear.
And
then a shock of life,
a thundering
next follows.
And all together these
themselves repeat again and
yet again.

I, naked human only hide
to rest from the fury of
these wanton ways
the Soul, though bare,
on its being naked
fares more brilliant in itself
more intelligent
digs up more easily
from those deep arcane
wells that be in brain.

and in the Soul
the storm has the first
of its contagious strikes
there,
it first enthrones itself
and
makes its object be as one
with it,
delighting in the horror and the pain.

but then
the flesh that bears
the brunt of horror and the pain
will be that brain that lights
from darker ways:
brilliant digs Intelligence
Discovery and Thought
and brings them to his side
all hand in hand.

and
then the brain will be propense
to speak
else tell the hands to write
or in other manifold ways
bring forth what's dug in it:
and then
the Day will smile
and in her hand will hold
a budding Dawn that smiles
dispels the tempest with her
magic wand
though from one to other Soul
contagious be:
in reverse order will
the Dawn contagious overturn
the brain's storm-darkness
and
bring on a new smile
and
Earth continue will rotate round
and round.
