Contemporary Complexities Poem by Steven Washington

Why can't you understand that I don't want to be nothing like you, I
Have my own mind for a reason so you're not going to
Understand my region of higher literary complexes
That comes off in a higher intellectual
Capacity.
This is my mind with my rhymes so let me show you what's between these lines
That's continually making you think I need an intervention with something
That does not catch my beliefs you're not going to understand me
So, stop trying I will leave you confused making you pray that
I just do what you would want me to do.
You must be confused my brain has over exceeded the boundaries of a normal man
In these streets but you keep saying that you know me but
Can't tell me what I'm really chasing for.
You're stuck living in the present now your mind is caught with insecure thoughts
Only living one day at a time not thinking about your future
But since I was 16 I was thinking about my future.
So, let me give you a glimpse of what's really in my mind so don't get lost because
It will cause you to waste all of your time trying to connect the dots and
Never getting close to the matter at hand while you're subconsciously
Focusing on this it will cause you to go deranged.
I've been working since I was 16, started college courses also by the age of 16
Enrolled in my first college by the age of 17, so since I've been to 4
Different colleges and took up different majors, I've been working
For 10 years in different fields of employment and you still
Might not understand what that comes up with.
I'm 26 years old with 10 years of work experience and 10 years of college
Experience, my mind is sucking up all this information, the plan was
Never to stay in the present now by the age of 37 I will have
10 years of my own creating, working for myself in
Select fields of study mastering them all so I
Won't have to worry if my family
Will be taken care of.
This is my plan so if you feel some type of way I hope you can study the
Significant ways that my mind holds in place so you won't be stuck
Here sitting in basic ways to lose everything praying for a
Blessing without putting in the work to run after your
Vision to have a better life so you won't have to
Reason your soul to a religion that is
Destructive to reasons unknown.
