Corner Of Life Poem by Simon Matar

Corner Of Life

Rating: 4.5

Only during the late hours of the night
that you figure it all right
You wait for this moment at dawn
when you wish it is washed away and gone
You look in that dark mirror on the wall
Ask questions that has no answers at all

Stuck in that very clean cube of glass and ice
Where everything outside looks neat and nice
Eager to get out to live in that haven
you start to melt it down, you want it certain
you smash that thin layer of glass
you set a foot in there, that boundaries pass

It is that moment, when the truth strikes you
It is that moment, when you have no clue
You realize it was just a reflection of what's inside
All your hopes vanish, your wishes simply died
Suddenly, you feel those big walls closing from outside
You struggle out of reflex for survival and your own pride

You try to move, maneuver, outsmart that game
Hopeless for it all leads you to the same
You only find out very late in that play
You are not even a player, and you have no say
Just like in a chess game that you lose by own
Not a queen nor a king, barely that useless pawn

No control of your destiny, you tremble and shake
It turns dark, a sudden black-out of Human's make
After having light from that shining pearl
To that corner of life, in humiliation you swirl
Now with tears of pain, agony and regret
that you promise life with words of a wounded heart
