Cosmetics Poem by Masero Odari

Cosmetics

You and I are not the same
We might have the same name
But we are world's apart
You came to rave and rove and plunder
Our families you put asunder
No, you and I are not the same.

You took what's mine and made it yours
Gave us false hopes and painstaking chores
You buttered us up with myths and legends,
And within no time our ways became legends
And in this far far away outpost
You made us into a people so lost.

You and I are not the same
I would never ever do the same
Thing that I so solemnly swore not to
You taught us not to, but killed and mistreated us too
I am sober and very sane
I know you and I are not the same.
