Cosmic Thoughts Poem by Marilyn Shepperson

Cosmic Thoughts

What would it be like to ride on a comet
Hurtling through space at an unbelievable speed
Would you as you approach the Earth
See what has happened in the past
Or as you go past, see the future
And what distant sun has enough gravitational pull
To slow you down and cause you
To slew around its' body in a slingshot
To come flying back to this planet
What if when you reached your desination
That sun had imploded and there's a black hole
Would you get dragged in to it to be crushed
Or perhaps you'd pass through to find, what
But perhaps the sun exploded
Would that put your timming out by much
Would you then, still skim past on Earths' atmosphere
Just missing us as in the past
Or are you indeed Earths' nemesis
