Country So Beloved Poem by Joyce Hemsley

Country So Beloved

Dear England, how I love you
I will never leave your side
born here, I will die here
with thee I will abide.

I love your towns and cities
and your history of the seas,
your cathedrals and churches
your vales and hills of green.

Such splendour shines in summer
when fresh leaves adorn each tree,
and flowers of all colours bloom
with grace and dignity.

Memories of a Battle fought
almost seventy years ago,
live on within the autumn air
as British archives show.

Oh Queen and country so beloved
great poets exalt your name...
distinguished seat of learning
and magestic Hall of Fame.

As I roam across your countryside
my heart is filled with pride,
and with golden pen I sign a pledge
'With Thee I Will Abide'.
