Creatures Poem by Luke Easter

Creatures

Have you ever seen an Eagle soar?
To admire how effortless it glides,
As a smile comes across your face,
When you think how nice it would be to fly.

Or what about a Great White?
As it cuts speedily through the ocean blue,
Ever wonder why not a Cheetah?
70 mph would be nothing for you.

Imagine if you will a Lion in the jungle,
Africa’s perfect creature, long, lean and mean,
Roaming the plains of the Serengeti,
Truly a perfect kingdom made machine.

Stop for a minute, on the other hand,
How many of them would like to be man?
Made in the image of the Heavenly Creator,
Not shoes or a purse from a captured Alligator.

Creatures cannot communicate with each other,
Mankind can yet we still kill our sisters & brothers,
Why do so many people say they do believe?
When the only thing on their mind is to harm & deceive.

The greatest commandment is to show each other love,
Seeing another who is different what do you think of?
Loving only those who will love you back,
Is not a Godly kind of compassionate act.

When I think of all, this means every single one,
We’re not responsible for what our ancestors have done,
Just because your great uncle hung my grandfather from a tree,
Does not mean there can’t be fellowship between you and me.

Don’t think about what went on yesterday if it was sorrow,
Mankind crucified Jesus & God still loved them tomorrow,
Even while dying on the cross His love shone through,
Saying, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.”

What does this say about the state of the world today?
Will hatred, racism and wrong doing ever go away?
Too often we forget the words of Jesus our teacher,
We are human beings and not uncaring creatures.
