Creatures Kiss - Poem by Tom Renney

Dark child stirs ‘neath the skin of barren planet
Icy waters surround flesh, hard as granite
Alone and so lonely, he follows dark paths
‘Til he reaches the surface feeling winter winds blast

Bright child formed in the heart of a sun
Amidst fire and light, she escapes and she runs
Full of a great pride and eager to wander
She floats through the heavens, to hither and yonder

Up now, He glances and shades his dark eyes
Down now, she gazes and shadow espies
He reaches aloft, sinews grip like a vice
She feels his strong hand pull her down into ice

Enfolded in brilliance, she kindles his skin
They both falter and sizzle, but neither can win
At the last of her strength she sends forth her great art
With a flash and a steaming, she melts his cold heart

Together they lie, both exhausted and rent
A shade and a shimmer, both tired and spent
Slowly they heal and together unite
To survive each must join, no more can they fight

Out from their union comes wet steam and warm glow
A life giving space, from which wisdom does grow
Now they walk hand in hand, upon the green earth
And sometimes they kiss, to remember its birth
