Crescent Moon Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Crescent Moon

Rating: 5.0

There is a crescent moon
and a gentle spring breeze this night
stars seem to sparkle lower in the sky this late evening
the ring of dead silence
but the little dog's ears go up on alert
as she stares into the darkness
she hears or senses something I do not
I follow her direction and hear nothing
Then I listen with my heart
Suddenly the night comes alive
A train of startdust swoops down through the pine
and whisks past me and I feel a chill
the dog whimpers
Now up and across the heavens
the cosmic wind travels like lightning
follows the curvature of the earth to the horizon
and rushes to where you are sleeping
funnels through your open window
past your bed where you rest peacefully in dreams
brushes by you soft skin and kisses you as it passes
I pet the dog on the back of her head and her ears relax
The breeze settles down
But it's your warmth I feel
And your scent I smell in the soft night breeze
