Crime - Motherhood Will Keep You Out Of Gaol Poem by Paul Warren

Crime - Motherhood Will Keep You Out Of Gaol

Motherhood is such a sweet thing
To bring life to the world you should sing
But when you are a criminal and your crime
Means that your penalty should be to do some time
A lawyer will put the argument up to the court
That to gaol you should not attend or be ought
To go because your children deserve their mother
At home where she can look after them without bother
So now drug dealers and drug users killing people on the road
Are able to keep out of gaol whilst they are in mother mode.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
A convicted (twice) drug dealer stays out of gaol because she is a mother and now pregnant. A drug driver who killed a mother riding a bicycle puts to the court she should stay out of gaol too. This is because SA Gaols do not have facilities for mothers. A miscarriage of justice.
