Critical Mass Poem by Aaron Marchant

Critical Mass

Pity not the prophets unacknowledged.
Their comfort comes from sources we can't see.

They're on a different journey sat beside us on the bus,
And seek no vacuous approbation from the likes of us.

Had Einstein's theory met with scorn and hostile execration,
would it undermine the merit of that beautiful equation?

And if Newton's peers had mocked his thoughts regarding physical law
His truth would be the same had he but left an apple core

The visionary Blake could see where lesser mortals fail
Yet persisted none the less to grab a 'Tyger' by the tail

And what of he who delivered the sermon on the mount?
Two thousand years later, it is as worthy of recount.

Those with the gift of foresight need neither our praise or sorrow
though their prescient contribution be not valued 'til tomorrow
