Cry Out In Your Weakness Poem by Tony Walton

Cry Out In Your Weakness

Rating: 4.0

Cry out in your weakness and your fear flows forth.
Follow the pain of it. You will gain of it.
You will gain in freedom from your loneliness.

Love will hear you. Love will answer your crying.
And Love will free you from your fear of dying
even before your breath has finished sighing.

And the Lord of Beauty will enter your soul
as a man walks into an orchard in Spring,
when apples are promises of the blossom.

Cry out in your weakness for the help you need.
Only the strong man is alone and unloved.
And he is blinded to what he does not know.

Show your hand. Unveil vulnerabilities
that make you truly alive. Strive to be new.
The view from the tomb is grave indeed. Be brave.

Be steadfast in uncertainty. It will save
you from the prison of your pride. The bars slide
apart and your heart flies free. And you will see.

Cry out in your weakness for the gift of strength
that you lift to your lips like a secret cup.
Drink deep of your sadness. It will bring you joy.

Rinse yourself in the difficulties of life
and wash away all doubt that it can be done.
Whatever is needed is the easy part.

Let Life lance bright red drops from your beating heart.
Let your soul rise in your mouth until you taste
Immortality's eternal moment.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Jelaluddin ar-Rumi (1207-73) remains a lodestar for readers and writers of poetry alike. His poetry is unfailingly positive, and its freshness and immediacy, across seven centuries is quite remarkable - assisted by modern translations such as those of Coleman Barks, published by Penguin, from which this poem is drawn.
