Crystal Flakes Poem by Kara Johnstad

Crystal Flakes

Crystal flakes
Catch on tongues
Lying in await
Hurried people
Walk in a daze
And the children ask
Why?

Mist and dew
Azured morning
Holds midnight moon
Palid 'peoples'
With much to do
And the children ask
Why?

Why the grim?
Seek the treasures
That lie within
Telling secrets
Of other times
As we learn
How to fly

Open wide
Slaying dragons
That sleep inside
Fighting impulse
To run and hide
As we learn How to fly

We are the morning's dawn
We are the midday's sun
We will keep shining on
Shining the light of one-
