Curse Poem by Janine Alyssa Navarro

Curse

There were words he couldn’t say
It draped over his shoulders
Yet he wasn’t brave enough
To take them off and wrap them
Around her dainty shoulders

He cried into the selfish night
As his own shadow turned haunted
He wanted her, only her
She was the only song, he was beaten
He knew every word ‘til he forgot his name

Fervent tries to prevent the wrong
The purpose to fight every villain
Including his own, he’d think of her face
Until the storms and pain couldn’t be said
Until they finally screamed “Defeat! ”

He cries above the pale clouds
As he fell for the thoughts
That clung to his spine too tightly
The gift to survive and linger
Is nothing but a curse without her
