Daddy Poem by Brittany Marsh

Daddy

Rating: 4.5

Daddy why are you home so late
You promised earlier hours
You smell of alcohol and sadness
Why can't I help you?
Why do I anger you so much?
I thought you loved me...

Daddy why do you throw so hard
The bruises hurt a little
But they eventually go away
Why do you keep lying?
What makes you so depressed?
I thought you loved me...

Daddy why are you gone for days
The family needs you
We worry about you
Who are you with when you leave us?
Why are they stealing you away?
I thought you loved me...

Daddy why did you leave us
Broken promises one by one
Broken hearts are all thats left
You think you're the only one that hurts?
You think you're the one who's lost people?
I thought you loved me...

Daddy what happened to you
You're tied up to machines
And saying how important we are to you
Is this the last time you'll breathe today?
Will that bed be your last?
I thought you loved me...

Daddy why are you in a jar
The doctors broke their promise
Your limbs failed
What made you so miserable?
Why were you in so much pain?
Daddy... I thought you loved me...

Brittany, your words struck a chord within me as I as i read on. The dysfunctional relationship here is sad but it is beautiful as well. Good job

Brittany, your poems are so fresh and touch the heart! You write courageously about the maladies that plague society. How sad when an innocent child has to grow up bewildered, not shown love... Thats not the way we should shape the future. We must build families to build lives. Keep writing and thanks for your comment on my poem!
