Darkness Poem by Don Subba

Darkness

In my mind, darkness wins,
Bringing noise to my skin.
Monster thoughts at my door,
And I can't shake them off.
In the dark,
I'm alone,
Left with shadows and stone.
Those who swore
I'd be safe
Let me fall in their place.

So I hide my face,
And I play my part.
I wear good like lace
Over a broken heart.
I say, 'I'm fine, '
But I know that's fake.
There's a spark in me
That the dark can't take.

Darkest darkness,
Show me light.
Darkest darkness,
Hold me tight.
If I can't see,
Then let me know.
The light is there
Beneath my soul.

I keep forcing the grin,
Like a mask on my skin.
I perform being loved
When I'm starving for love.
And I pray through the ache
For the night to break.
For the hands that let go
To lose all control.

So I lift my voice
Through the thorns and smoke.
If I have to crawl,
Then I'll still reach hope.
I want peace in me,
I want truth to stay.
I want my true self
To step out and say...

Darkest darkness,
Show me light.
Darkest darkness,
Hold me tight.
If I can't see,
Then let me know.
The light is there
Beneath my soul.

Maybe the wound
Is where it starts.
Maybe the rain
Can water the spark.
If all I have
Is this trembling prayer,
Meet me here
In the ruin there.

Darkest darkness,
Show me light.
Darkest darkness,
Hold me tight.
In the deepest low,
Let heaven grow.
In the darkest dark,
I see it glow.
Darkest darkness,
Lead me home.
Darkest darkness,
I'm not alone.
