Davy Fitzgerald Poem by Francis Duggan

Davy Fitzgerald

What he is about to achieve seems a remarkable thing
To break the Championship games record of Cork's Christy Ring
The hurling goalkeeper Davy Fitzgerald a legend of Clare
Through the length and breadth of Ireland one known everywhere.

Gaelic Games Immortality to Davy is near
For to break Ringy's record he will play on next year
And as records as we know are there to be broke
One can say of him he's an amazing bloke.

To break Christy Ring's record would be worthy of a boast
And Ring if he could from his grave for him would call for a toast
Who said that the sporting legends are long dead and gone
When records are broken and life it goes on.

For to break Christy Ring's record next year he will play
Lets hope he can do it is all one can say
A legend of Clare and of the hurling game
He scales the great peak above the hill of fame.
