Dead And Gone - Poem by DEBORAH MAPLES

When I'm dead and when I'm gone
and lying in a bed of hard cold stone.
May-be then you'll come to see
the worries and heartakes you put on me.

Son, you will soon know that life is rough
and standing alone is gonna be tough.
When I'm dead and when I'm gone
problems will arise that you've never known.

Just remember when I'm not around
I won't be there to pick you up when you are down.
You've got to realize that you're a man
and I won't be there to lead you by the hand.

Some-day, when I'm lying under that stone
you'll see that your mama was not wrong.
So, son I want always be around
to help you up when you are down.
When I'm dead and when I'm gone
just remember your mama was not wrong.
