Dead Inside Poem by Tammi Tomlinson

Dead Inside

She sits in the dim room,
Her gown still sticky with blood,
They handed you to her an hour before,
She hasn't taken her eyes off of you for a second.

Your body fully formed,
Skin paper thin,
Thin enough to see your veins through,
Eyes closed,
Under your eyelids their blue.

Looking back she remembers,
How you came to be,
Like your brother before you.

Holding her down your father,
Took your mothers innocence,
Forced her to submit to his urges,
Hurting her,
Raping her.

She couldn't believe the test,
Those two blue lines,
She was scared,
Of what he would do,
So she hid you under her clothes.

Then he hit her,
Just over half way,
Kicked her,
Beat her.

After you were born,
The nurses said you were smaller than expected,
The truth,
Finally emerged.

You were dead,
For three whole weeks,
Inside her,
Before you came out to see her.

She remembers every detail,
Even after four years,
Your father in prison,
Said he was happy he killed you,
And your big brother.

Your little brother loves you,
Loves you both,
So much,
And so does your mother,
So, so much.
