Dear Dad Poem by Claire Galpin

Dear Dad

Come back and give me guidance
Come back and give me love
I shall miss your joy and laughter
Do shine on me from above.

The children lay a sleeping
Exhausted, numb with shock,
They’ve had their bit of weeping
Within my arms they rock.

You looked so grey and sleepy Dad
I know your spirits drained you
I didn’t want to leave you
Dad
Did you know how much I loved you?

We’ve talked about this parting
But now I want to say
I’ll say goodbye and let you go
Your memories will never fade away.

I didn’t go and see you Dad
I couldn’t take the strain
I held on to my past too much
I couldn’t take the pain.

I couldn’t bear to see you struggle,
Your speech, you could hardly talk,
Your body gave you so much trouble
Your legs, you could hardly walk.

My bodies all a shiver
Its probably just in shock,
I feel so numb and helpless
Help from you, I’ve had my lot.

As daylight starts to break today
The first day you have not seen
We’ll get along without delay
To put to rest the days that’s been.
