Dear, Lover Poem by Sierra Celeste Cearns

Dear, Lover

'God, you are beautiful.
Stars fall out of jealousy;
They land, making a bed of light.
Lie down and let your beauty shine!
And when you cry, those tears become the ocean.
I'm drowning in those eyes.

To ask for air is to ask for your breath.
and to ask for your breath is to ask for your lips.
So, Dear I need your kiss!
Otherwise I'm left saddened by the dust of my nothingness.

As you lean, your hair becomes the black of the sky.
I would be surrounded by darkness if it was not for your smile.
I followed that grin back to you, Lover.
I sweep the darkness behind your ear and whisper,
'God, you are beautiful.'

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this to my beautiful girlfriend who I spent 15, stressful but amazing, months with. Things didn't end up working out, but I still wish her the best.
