Dear Reader, Poem by Sea Willow

Dear Reader,

I used to write about grape soda
Doing so with such unbridled passion
Or about the beauty of braided challah
Words written in an odd fashion

Nonsensical, but not to me
Holding some greater meaning
But with no noticeable degree
Explanations I don't bother repeating

Yet if no true rules have been decreed
What is this pigeon squawking at me for?
Filling my head with what it's supposed to be
The noise is convincing me I'm not what I thought before

You see, a refrigerator holds weight
Of ideas such as distress and gain
Every little thing reminds me of my fate
And the decency I feign

I close my eyes until I reach the trance
A place of not existing, existing in harmony
The pencil begins its curling dance
Until the page forgets it was once a tree

Filling in between the lines
Looking in the invisible to see what inspires
Thoughts that flutter through like butterflies
Surprised all the absurdity hasn't caught firer

I misconstrue to confuse
To baffle even I, the beholder
Encouraging insanity is a perfect muse
Tracing each letter until it's so loud that perhaps it's bolder

There's cotton floating through my yard
Its cushion makes me ponder over coffins
Or how blood reminds me of a shard
A direct effect of taking it to our skins

Humor me, my imaginary, dear reader
What is it that speaks to you?
How do the words sound rushing through your ears
I'd think it seems as pointless to me as it does to you too
