Death And Eternity Poem by David Mitchell

Death And Eternity

All men must suffer and all men must die:
This is the law that no man may evade.
Our labourings are done with many a sigh
And sorrow that our hour is not delayed

Beyond the stroke appointed, that shall mark
The end and the beginning of our life,
When hounds of hell shall threateningly bark,
Accusing, bearing memories and strife
To appal the dying sinner. But behold!
Christ Jesus comes, with arms outstretched to save,
Therefore you need not fear the bitter cold
And darkness of an unforgiving grave:

No, He has died so that you might be free
To gaze upon Him everlastingly.
