Death Did Us Part Poem by William Cavanagh

Death Did Us Part

Rating: 5.0

Our days together are as precious as any I care to recall
An alluring film of perfumed mist enchanted your room
Defusing the glitter of light so that the heavens we breathed
Seemed to be composed of a mystical dust infusing all articles
It settled upon

And so it was, year after year devoid of change
You and I were inseparable, flesh upon flesh
And the view from your room was always perpetual
I never tired of it for a moment as our time passed slowly
With the hours dipped in gold

Now and then when I enter your empty room at night
I find everything about you worthy of interest and attention
Common objects in your small room, a brush, a photo and writing paper
Seen in various shadow of light throughout the hours
I find enchanting and wondered why I failed to notice before

And as I dream of our figures transfigured in the pale light of day
I am gripped by the memories of you and I together
And I am struck by the sense of horror, that I am aged
And you are gone and I miss you so much, however
I’ll be along soon…
