Cloudburst Poem by William Cavanagh

Cloudburst

Rating: 5.0

My telephone rang one fine spring day
I was certain that I heard my sister say
Your cousin Jim has just passed away
I hung my head in sorrow as if to pray

My heart bled for his delicate mother
And I agonized for his good brother
I felt profound sorrow for his sister
As I did listen to my heart whimper

When we were young, Jim and I hung around
When we held high hopes and dreams abound
And now our hearts together are stormbound
For today Jim Snider lives in the ground

As I sit down to reminisce Jim a while
Now I remember his laugh and his smile
The thoughts and all the memories compile
And the way Jim lived his life full freestyle.

And now as I drink to Jim with a beer
I recall days together with great cheer
With the gloom and glint of yet another tear
I will always hold those memories dear
