I didn't understand it when people said being in love puts you in debt,
Until I met you,
I would give you the last penny in my pocket and then some,
But it's not just money I mean.
I'd offer you my last meal if you were hungry,
I'd give you my heart, my soul—everything I am—
Just to see you smile
For you, I am eternally in debt to the universe.
I owe it for bringing you into my life,
For your laughter, your smile, the light in your eyes.
I owe it for the way you make me feel alive again,
For your strength, your passion, your quiet grace.
I owe it for reminding me what joy feels like,
When I thought it had slipped away forever.
So because of you I am forever in debt,
But then again you will never know,
And maybe that's the price ive had to pay
Because being around you is torture,
Is a kind of torment that never lets me go.
An endless loop of hope and despair,
A longing that never seems to fade.
Loving you is a high like I have never known,
With a fall so hard it knocks the breathe out of my lungs,
Being around you knowing you were never truly mine and you will never truly be mine,
Is enough to drive me insane,
So maybe my debt is paid,
Maybe ive given enough,
Maybe my pain is the price ive had to pay to the universe for letting me love you even if it's the loneliest thing ive ever experienced
by nightmare

Your poem gives full justice to the title. Unreciprocated love is really painful and the lover asks why did he fall in love!
