December 31 Poem by Ajit Das

December 31

Pausing moment of the parting sun:
skyline changes into deep russet,
evening brings down the shadowy certain,
falling dusk obliterates the page of the day.

Tomorrow we will wake up, dreaming
of a landscape, sketched by sunbeams,
under the canopy of foliage,
its colours, shades in vivid display.

But the day will draw the same backdrop:
opulence hiding the widening cracks,
hate and terror corroding the axis,
while acquiescence ceasing to articulate.

The majestic train of life is hijacked.
Let the new engine break the clutches
of diminishing humans, regain the track,
steaming off with the beacon of hope.
