Decimate Poem by Kayci Lamb

Decimate

i fell in love with your veins
the light blue and even the crimson
but i became a clot inside your heart
stopping it forever.

i should have fallen for your skin
the tan in the heat and the pale in the cold
but i would have marred you regardless
leaving you scarred.

perhaps your eyes were the best choice
the sparkle in the light and the dull in the dark
but i would have become a cataract
stealing all your sight.

the best idea would be to never have fallen at all
not with your veins or skin or eyes
or your nails or eyelashes or knees
not even with your cheeks
next time i'll be more careful
and fall for your mind
to save you.
