Don'T Look Back Poem by Kayci Lamb

Don'T Look Back

two am i turn on pbs
i see a red muppet looking for us
he asked me to count to ten
i scoffed and then
ten nine seven six five
four three two one
the tears come

the big yellow bird
brings me backward
to times when mommy and daddy
were mommyanddaddy
with a wet face i smiled
fond and drifted off
to when times were less tough

ive already learned my abc's
still theres more lessons for me
like how to shine without you
and how to live a new
i lose my smile when oscar
appears on my tv screen
he reminds me of your routine

cookie monster taunts my insides
drenched face, i take long strides
to the family room's front window
and i look down below
there's only one car
i will myself back there with no allow
you're my snuffleupagus now
