Kayci Lamb Poems

i fell in love with your veins
the light blue and even the crimson
but i became a clot inside your heart
stopping it forever.
...

I want to plant you like a flower
Filling you every day with endless sunrays
But you can ignore this in the spirit of banter
...

two am i turn on pbs
i see a red muppet looking for us
he asked me to count to ten
i scoffed and then
...

4.

witnessing the start
of a piece of art
a princess loved,
but never told
...

in the winter i want to curl up inside you,
only to emerge in the bright heat of summer,
still grasping your hand like a lost lamb,
groping for your warmth.
...

every time i remember you exist
i salt my tongue
every word i said to you
is an open wound
...

you'll find me under the floorboards
reeking of formaldehyde and rosemary
i watch and wait for you
to pick back the wooden planks
...

8.

bite my teeth
you've got melodies in your joints
pick my nails
you've got tv screens in your eyes
...

i broke my back lifting a daisy
i lay all day in bed and rest
eyes so heavy they're wide open
at least i am not alone:
...

when you open yourself for that brief moment
when you dig inside and rip apart your ribs
i flutter into the clouds and for a small while
i am ethereal, untouchable, a butterfly
...

my eyes are aflame
my belly filled with stars
my heart is buzzing
and i never want it to stop
...

12.

I swear I didn't mean to
but I tattooed you
onto my eyelids
and every time I wake up
...

Translucent veins dot along the arms of once alive bark
Stillness and cold forcing past greenery to fade into geometric shapes

The shrub now a tangle of twigs
...

I braided dozedaises with her hair;
the green stem,
the white petals,
and the yellow stamen,
...

the tides roll in
the tides roll out

the day tolls on
...

you're blinding me
with all that light inside you
you're so bright
i couldn't handle the heat
...

i wish i was the moon
i could be your protector
your light in the dark
...

Decimate

i fell in love with your veins
the light blue and even the crimson
but i became a clot inside your heart
stopping it forever.

i should have fallen for your skin
the tan in the heat and the pale in the cold
but i would have marred you regardless
leaving you scarred.

perhaps your eyes were the best choice
the sparkle in the light and the dull in the dark
but i would have become a cataract
stealing all your sight.

the best idea would be to never have fallen at all
not with your veins or skin or eyes
or your nails or eyelashes or knees
not even with your cheeks
next time i'll be more careful
and fall for your mind
to save you.
