Deck Repair Poem by Craig Steiger

Deck Repair

Deep in the digger pines
Alone at the end of Piper Hill Road
Crossed by vulture shadows
I balance the two by eight by fourteen skirt-board
On my left knee
Twenty feet up the old extension ladder
In my mouth a passel
Of sixteen-penny nails
Praying Nothing Shifts
