Deep Fear Poem by Papa Yarquah

Deep Fear

I join the line
To await my turn
Slow through time
My turn finally comes

I wish I could run
I wish I could hide
But the bright light
Brought me to bear

The mountains are lost
The valleys gone
There is no shelter to dwell
From the scorching sun

I got up and looked
And all around
All was plain, and then there it was
The light of appointed time

Gradually, gradually
Slowly and fearfully
Before the pure light
Our straight lines are formed

And here I am
Step by step
Patience through time
I appear before the eternal light

All around me
Desolation lay
Out of the ground
Bubbled out fire

I stood in awe
And trembled in fright
The eye of the light
On me swiftly falls

My weakness in a time
My darkness through my life
My shame through the years
Before every soul lay bare

Then I saw myself cry
Tears of pity, none could dry
Within me darkness laughed
For indeed it has defeated me

The bright light upon me stayed
Though my eyes fairly could not see
I felt a smile of comfort, upon me placed
And a voice saying; ‘you now know I AM real’

Then from around, a wind blows about
Then voices of peace upon me speak
I close my eyes, for I was lost in time
And opened them to see I am alive

I jumped from my bed
With humble zealousness
And bowed my knees with no bitter care
And, said a prayer of Peace. Amen.
