Defeated Poem by Ann Thrope

Defeated

i'll fly away
into razor-sharp skies
forgetting i ever existed.
and your eyes will turn black,
dripping red-hot tears
as you watch me leave forever.
the skies turn muddy with hate,
and clouds begin to gather around me
while i float in total oblivion.
my world has collapsed
and i went with it.
all that's left is this half-dead body,
this shell,
void of all life and spirit.
my eyes are empty,
they've lost all signs of life, too.
my heart won't beat,
and my breath catches in my throat
again
and again.
i feel empty.
cause i lost this fight,
this battle..
this war i waged against myself.
I am defeated.
