Destroyed Poem by Ann Thrope

Destroyed

i took off our necklace,
tore open my heart,
sewed it back together,
and left your name out.
try falling in love
with love itself,
the love for another,
destroying your health.
[[disintegrate daily,
tears fall freely,
faith runs out,
lose all confidence in yourself.]]
how could i be so blind,
thinking one day you might be mine,
thinking i could turn back time,
maybe pretend it's all fine..
we never tried,
only told lie after lie,
hoping it would turn out for the best,
knowing it would be what we feared most.
i never wanted you gone,
just far, far away.
enough distance to let you go,
it never happened though.
i held on tight,
destroyed my life,
fell in love over and over again,
too hard, too fast,
i knew it would never last.
