Deja Vous Poem by Majdoleen (Maggie) Sukayri

Deja Vous

Days have passed and now you're nowhere to be found.
Leaving behind merely blissful memories
You have long gone to your other place
Wanting your presence wasn't enough for your return
I refuse to give in, refuse to understand
Refusing to believe… I go on, numb to my surroundings.

I lay here tracing everything back to a stolen moment
Falling asleep, drifting back into a time when all this wasn't
The night carries me to you, bringing me closer to a long forgotten dream
I come to you with open arms,
I bring with me all my memories.
I shiver, as a shrill draft snaps me back, and pulls me away again.

In the still morning I wake, and I see…
Years have passed, and you're still gone.
I gaze into the distance recalling what is lost,
Realizing time has whooshed away, clutching you along.
I try to hold on, but…
Pictures of you begin to fade away
The sound of your footsteps, now just a lingering echo
Imprints of your existence begin to perish.
I keep fighting for your memories to stay with me
I try to speak of the legend that is you
All in vain, they now have lost all meaning

Time passes… years now gone by, and you're still gone.

A swift autumn breeze carries a sweet scent
A reminder of what's long gone
Words you have spoken, linger on.
Thoughts you have written, dance in front of misty eyes.
Images of times sway on walls of a place we once called home.
Trees uncovering their sorrow, awaiting hollow grounds
Clouds reuniting, after long departure
A cry, showering hollow grounds… as another year passes…
