Democracy 2 Poem by Raymond Farrell

Democracy 2

Democracy, that amicable tyranny of the majority
Shadow of happiness, life, liberty, equality
But not the very embodiment of these entities
A purveyor of dreams and better tomorrows
Devoid of tears and empty of sorrows
Is in reality never as it seems
Just politicians hatching endless schemes
Making promises they seldom keep
Eventually, most succumb to cynicism and unbelief
Others seek different remedies to bring relief
Democracy seldom vanquishes the suppressor
Allows each to be their own oppressor
To cast their vote, that seals their fate
Indeed, of all governments that serve
Democracy alone gives people what they deserve.
